Overview

CoolSculpting® Elite is a non-invasive fat-reduction (cryolipolysis) system that uses controlled cooling to selectively reduce localised fat. It comprises a control unit and detachable applicators connected by umbilicals, allowing two applicators to run simultaneously, alongside supplies such as treatment cards, gelpads and skin wipes. It's a long-established platform used in non-surgical body-contouring clinics.

What to Check Before Buying

  • Full service and maintenance history
  • Software/system version and treatment card compatibility
  • Number, type and condition of applicators (vacuum cups can wear)
  • Whether consumables (gelpads, cards, wipes) are included or need separate ongoing purchase
  • Calibration status and any manufacturer support/warranty arrangements
  • Confirmation of legitimate ownership/registration, given AbbVie's clinic network model

Key features

  • Control unit with touchscreen interface and treatment-card authentication system
  • Dual umbilicals allowing simultaneous use of two applicators
  • Freeze Detect safety monitoring system, plus CoolControl temperature stabilisation
  • Applicators selected by body area, with cooling cycles typically run at around -11°C
  • Consumables: CoolAdhesive gelpads, pretreatment skin wipes, liners, foam borders, comfort straps
  • Number, generation and condition of applicators included: seller to specify

Who it's for

  • Aesthetic clinics, dermatology and plastic surgery practices offering non-surgical body contouring
  • Buyers looking to add or expand a fat-reduction treatment menu without capital outlay on a brand-new system

About CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting® is owned and marketed by Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company. The technology is based on cryolipolysis, first developed by ZELTIQ Aesthetics, and works by cooling subcutaneous tissue to selectively target fat cells (adipocytes), which are more sensitive to cold than the surrounding skin, muscle, and nerve tissue.

Certification

The CoolSculpting Elite System received US FDA 510(k) clearance on 21 January 2020 and was first CE marked in Europe in November 2020. The wider CoolSculpting platform holds multiple separate FDA clearances covering different treatment areas, including the flanks, abdomen, thighs, arms, and submental/submandibular areas. As a CE-marked medical device sold in the UK, it falls under MHRA regulation; UKCA marking status should be confirmed with the seller for units placed on the GB market after the CE/UKCA transition.

Compatible with

Applicators are generation-specific. Elite applicators were redesigned from the original CoolSculpting applicators to support simultaneous dual use - do not assume cross-compatibility between Classic and Elite applicators without confirming with the seller or manufacturer.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the original CoolSculpting system or the Elite version?
This listing covers CoolSculpting® Elite, the dual-applicator generation cleared in 2020. Sellers listing the earlier single-applicator Classic system should specify this separately.

What areas is the device cleared to treat?
CoolSculpting Elite is indicated for cold-assisted lipolysis of the upper arm, bra fat, back fat, banana roll, thigh, abdomen and flank, as well as the submental and submandibular areas.

Are consumables included with the machine?
This depends on the individual listing — treatment cards, gelpads and applicator liners are ongoing consumables and should be confirmed with the seller as they're not typically bundled long-term.

Does the system need a service contract?
Not necessarily to operate, but buyers should check calibration and maintenance history before purchase, as with any cryolipolysis platform.

Who can I contact to verify a unit's authenticity or registration?
Buyers can request AbbVie/Allergan Aesthetics support contact details from the seller; adverse event and regulatory reporting routes are published via MHRA Yellow Card for UK use.
